Updated pulseaudio packages that fix several bugs and add two enhancements are
now available for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.

Description

PulseAudio is a sound server for Linux, UNIX, and similar operating systems.

This update fixes the following bugs:

• Previously, when the PulseAudio server attempted to change the sample rate, it

suspended the sink and relied on the module-suspend-on-idle module to resume the
sink in the new sample rate. Consequently, disabling module-suspend-on-idle
caused lockups on custom setups, leading to silencing the sound. A patch has
been applied to fix this bug, and the lockups no longer occur. (BZ#1116319)

• When the user's home directory was mounted on a linux system from

another host using Common Internet File System (CIFS), PulseAudio refused to
start as PulseAudio could not set the necessary permissions on the
.config/pulse/ directory. A test has been implemented to check whether the file
system is a CIFS file system and to exit early the procedure to prevent
PulseAudio from failing, thus fixing the bug. (BZ#1136330)

• Previously, the padsp utility was not using the correct path to preload the

PulseAudio library. The broken path has been fixed, and padsp now works as
expected. (BZ#1154072)

• Prior to this update, lt-cpu-test terminated unexpectedly due to a bug in its

code. The bug in the unit tests has been fixed, and all tests now pass as
expected. (BZ#1166069)

• Previously, bluetooth was suspending a bluetooth music transmission, which led

to unexpected termination of PulseAudio. This bug has been fixed, and suspending
a bluetooth music transmission no longer leads to PulseAudio crashing.

In addition, this update adds the following enhancements:

• With this update, the module-combine-sinks module dynamically adapts to the

latency of the sinks and the requirements of the application. This avoids
stuttering and audio glitches in low latency situations in which audio is routed
to multiple outputs. (BZ#1116346)

• The updated pulseaudio packages now contain various stability improvements.

Users of pulseaudio are advised to upgrade to these updated packages, which fix
these bugs and add these enhancements.

Solution

Before applying this update, make sure all previously released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.
