Updated firstboot packages that fix several bugs are now available for Red Hat
Enterprise Linux 7.

Description

The firstboot utility runs after system installation and guides the user through
a series of steps that allows for easier configuration of the machine.

This update fixes the following bugs:

• Previously, the firstboot systemd service stayed enabled after the firstboot

process was completed. This, in consequence, slowed down every system boot by
about 400 ms. With this update, the firstboot service is now properly disabled
once the firstboot process is completed, and the described slowdown no longer
occurs. (BZ#1091317)

• The firstboot utility requires the python-ethtool package, but python-ethtool

was not declared as a dependency in the firstboot package. As a consequence, the
firstboot utility could not be started successfully if python-ethtool was not
installed. This bug has been fixed, and python-ethtool is now correctly pulled
in when the firstboot package is installed. (BZ#1116921)

• Previously, the title layout did not accommodate long titles in the firstboot

window. Consequently, certain translated titles did not fit in the window and
were disrupted. This bug has been fixed, and long titles are no longer
disrupted. (BZ#1040583)

• Prior to this update, the exception handler in the firstboot utility did not

work correctly. Consequently, crashes in firstboot could not be properly
reported. A patch has been applied, and firstboot crashes are now successfully
reported by Automatic Bug Reporting Tool (ABRT). (BZ#952633)

Users of firstboot are advised to upgrade to these updated packages, which fix
these bugs.

Solution

Before applying this update, make sure all previously released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.
