Topic

Updated sysstat packages that fix several bugs and add two enhancements are now
available for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.

Description

The sysstat packages provide the sar and iostat commands. These commands enable
system monitoring of disk, network, and other I/O activity.

This update fixes the following bugs:

• Prior to this update, the sa2 script did not support the .xz files

compression. Consequently, old daily files were not deleted. With this update,
sa2 supports compression of .xz files, and the old files are therefore deleted
as expected. (BZ#1097294)

• Before this update, the sysstat utility did not check daily data files from

the previous month. As a consequence, sysstat appended new data to old sar daily
data files in some cases when the program logic met a boundary condition. With
this update, sysstat checks whether the old sar daily data file exists, thus
fixing the bug. (BZ#1100365)

• Previously, the dyn-tick kernel feature could make fields in the /proc/stat

file unreliable. Consequently, fields in /proc/stat became unassigned, and
sysstat commands could thus show overflowed values. This update implements a
workaround which detects the aforementioned fields, and as a result, the sysstat
commands no longer show overflowed values. (BZ#1128569)

• Previously, in the iostat(1) and sar(1) manual pages, the description of the

%util field was incorrect. This update fixes the description of the
aforementioned field, and documentation of iostat and sar is now correct.

• Due to an uninitialized variable for single-core machines, the cifsiostat and

nfsiostat utilities did not report the correct number of open files. With this
update, the variable is initialized correctly, and the aforementioned utilities
now report the correct number of open files. (BZ#1146081)

In addition, this update adds the following enhancements:

• With this update, the user is able to set a data file compression method in

the /etc/sysconfig/sysstat configuration file using the ZIP variable. This
enhancement provides an easier configuration of the data file compression
method. (BZ#1102610)

• With this enhancement, the sysstat(5) manual pages have been updated to

provide a detailed description of the HISTORY configuration variable.

Users of sysstat are advised to upgrade to these updated packages, which fix
these bugs and add these enhancements.

Solution

Before applying this update, make sure all previously released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.
