Updated open-vm-tools packages that fix several bugs are now available for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.

Description

The Open Virtual Machine Tools (open-vm-tools) are the open source
implementation of VMware Tools. They are a set of guest operating system
virtualization components that enhance performance and user experience of
virtual machines.

This update fixes the following bugs:

• When installing the open-vm-tools utility, the vm-support script was stored in the /etc/vmware-tools/ directory. This was very inconvenient, as VMware Tools install the same script in the /usr/bin/ directory and other VMware products expect to find vm-support in the default search path. With this update, vm-support has been moved from /etc/vmware-tools/ to /usr/bin/, so that it is present in the default search path. (BZ#1090686)
• Previously, uninstalling the open-vm-tools utility left the VMware platform assuming that the open-vm-tools packages were still installed on the guest. To fix this bug, the tools.set.version remote procedure call (RPC) has been added to inform the VMware platform when open-vm-tools has been uninstalled. In addition, the user now receives a message that open-vm-tools is not running because it is not installed. (BZ#1090688)
• Prior to this update, the open-vm-tools dependencies were not

identified properly and seven packages were omitted. To fix this bug, the
dependencies have been added, and open-vm-tools installation now pulls all the dependencies as expected. (BZ#1090695)

• Due to broken Application Binary Interface (ABI) compatibility, the

open-vm-tools packages did not work with the libprocps.so.3 RPM source. To fix this bug, open-vm-tools has been rebuilt to require the new libprocps.so.4. (BZ#1140149)

Users of open-vm-tools are advised to upgrade to these updated packages, which fix these bugs.

Solution

Before applying this update, make sure all previously released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.
