Updated acpica-tools packages that fix several bugs and add various enhancements are now available for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.

Description

The ACPI Component Architecture (ACPICA) project provides an OS-independent
reference implementation of the Advanced Configuration and Power Interface
Specification (ACPI). ACPICA code contains those portions of ACPI meant to
be directly integrated into the host OS as a kernel-resident subsystem, and
a small set of tools to assist in developing and debugging ACPI tables.

The acpica-tools packages have been upgraded to upstream version 20140926, which provides a number of bug fixes and enhancements over the previous version, namely adds support for the 64-bit ARM architecture. (BZ#967963)

This update also fixes the following bugs:

• Due to a dangling symlink error, efforts to open the acpixtract(1) man page were unsuccessful. This update fixes the symlink reference to the original file, and the user can now open the man page by running "man acpixtract" as intended. (BZ#1074681)
• Prior to this update, the acpica-tools packages did not build on the little-endian variant of IBM Power Systems. Consequently, users of this platform did not have acpica-tools available, which prevented other programs from working. To fix this bug, acpica-tools have been updated to support the little-endian variant of IBM Power Systems, and the systems users now have working acpica-tools packages. (BZ#1125471)

Users of acpica-tools are advised to upgrade to these updated packages, which fix these bugs and add these enhancements.

Solution

Before applying this update, make sure all previously released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.
