Topic

Updated anaconda packages that fix several bugs and add various enhancements are
now available for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.

Description for BZ#1130042 has been added to this advisory and descriptions for
BZ#788313 and BZ#1181336 have been removed from the advisory. This update does
not change the packages in any way.

Description

The anaconda packages contain portions of the Anaconda installation program that
can be run by the user for reconfiguration and advanced installation options.

Bug fixes:

• Interface names based on the position of the device in the hardware were bound

to the media access control (MAC) address via the HWADDR directive. As a
consequence, the MAC binding rendered the position-based naming useless, and
swapping a PCI network card required the card to be reconfigured. With this
update, dracut no longer assigns MAC address binding to interfaces with HWADDR.
As a result, persistent interface names do not depend on the MAC address, and
swapping a PCI network card does not require rewriting the configuration.

• A flag for rescue mode was not set properly, which prevented the user from

using rescue mode from the boot menu. This bug has been fixed. (BZ#1143056)

• Anaconda assumed that user's home directories could be located only in the

/home/<user>/ directory. Consequently, an attempt to create a new user account
with a home directory located elsewhere failed. Now, Anaconda allows users to
create their home directories also in other locations. (BZ#1163775)

• Setting a custom group membership in the Anaconda GUI did not work correctly

and newly-created users could not be added to the custom groups. This bug has
been fixed. (BZ#1163803)

Enhancements:

• When booting a root partition with multiple mount points from an iSCSI disk,

the mount points are mounted at the same time as the root partition to boot
successfully. (BZ#740106)

• Anaconda now logs the START, FINISH, and ABORTED states to the Intelligent

Platform Management Interface (IPMI) to allow other monitoring utilities to
track the state of the installation. (BZ#782019)

• When booting from an iSCSI disk, the VLAN IDs from the iSCSI Boot Firmware

Table (iBFT) are now used. (BZ#804511)

• The kickstart "lvm --profile" option has been added to support thin logical

volumes. (BZ#869456)

• Platform-specific packages are now installed automatically based on the used

virtualization platform. (BZ#884385)

• Users can now select the language that will be used on the installed system

from text mode. (BZ#1000326)

• The kickstart "%addon" command now supports additional arguments. (BZ#1065674)
• The "Help!" button has been added to the upper right corner of every installer

screen. Pressing this button opens a window with the help content specific to
the current screen. (BZ#1072033)

• Anaconda now gathers random data entropy if the disk is encrypted in order to

prevent possible security issues, which could be caused by creating an encrypted
format with a low degree of random data entropy. Therefore, Anaconda waits until
enough entropy is gathered when creating an encrypted format and suggests the
user how to reduce the waiting time. (BZ#1073679)

• Anaconda now supports the creation of network bridges using the GUI or the

kickstart "network" command. (BZ#1075195)

• The kickstart "liveimg" command now supports tar file packages by matching the

suffix of the file to one of the following: .tar, .tbz, .tgz, .txz, .tar.bz2,
tar.gz, or tar.xz. (BZ#1080396)

• The kickstart "autopart" command now supports the "--fstype=" option allowing

the user to select any of the supported file systems as the one to use when
automatically partitioning the system. (BZ#1112697)

• Support for the OSTree utility has been added. (BZ#1113535)
• Anaconda now supports the Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) wireless connections

during the installation. (BZ#1120374)

• Certain utilities, for example Docker, do not need a full installation. To

support a partial installation of such utilities, several kickstart options have
been added. (BZ#1123479)

Users of anaconda are advised to upgrade to these updated packages, which fix
these bugs and add these enhancements.

Solution

Before applying this update, make sure all previously released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.
