Topic

Updated tree packages that fix one bug are now available for Red Hat Enterprise
Linux 6.

Description

The tree package contains the tree utility that recursively displays the
contents of directories in a tree-like format. Tree is basically a UNIX port of
the DOS tree utility.

This update fixes the following bug:

  • Previously, buffer overflows could occur in the uidtoname() and gidtoname()

functions of the tree utility. As a consequence, using the "tree" command in
some cases failed and the following error message was displayed to the user:

  • ** buffer overflow detected ***: tree terminated

An upstream patch has been backported to fix the problem, and the tree utility
now lists files as expected. (BZ#1110559)

Users of tree are advised to upgrade to these updated packages, which fix this
bug.

Solution

Before applying this update, make sure all previously released errata relevant
to your system have been applied.

This update is available via the Red Hat Network. Details on how to use the Red
Hat Network to apply this update are available at
