Topic

An updated sos package that fixes two bugs and adds various enhancements is now available for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.

Description

The sos package contains a set of utilities that gather information from system
hardware, logs, and configuration files. The information can then be used for
diagnostic purposes and debugging.

This update fixes the following bugs:

• The previous openstack sos plug-in was incorrectly collecting the entire

contents of the /var/lib/nova/ directory including instance images.
Consequently, sosreports became too large. To fix this bug, the openstack
plug-in in the sos package has been updated, and collected sos reports now
provide information of reasonable size. (BZ#1148554)

• Previously, the Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization (RHEV) log collector passed

the PGPASSWORD variable to the sos.conf file via the "-kpostgresql.password"
command-line option. However, this exposed the password in process listings and
no database dump was collected. With this update, sos.conf uses PGPASSWORD
obtained from the environment if
"-kpostgresql.password" is used, thus fixing the bug. (BZ#1159835)

In addition, this update adds the following enhancements:

• With this update, Foreman 1.2 support has been added to the sos package.

Foreman contains the foreman-debug command with new useful arguments that
collect debug data. Now, foreman-debug is installed in the
/usr/sbin/foreman-debug file. (BZ#1139339)

• This update adds the kpatch utility support to sosreport. Now, sosreport also

provides debugging information on live patching of a running kernel.

• The plug-ins provided by the sos-plugins-openstack package have been merged to

the sos package to avoid issues resulting from update inconsistencies.
(BZ#1148784)

Users of sos are advised to upgrade to this updated package, which fixes these
bugs and adds these enhancements.
