Topic

An updated virtio-win package that fixes several bugs is now available for Red
Hat Enterprise Linux 6.

Description

The virtio-win package provides paravirtualized device drivers for most
Microsoft Windows operating systems. Paravirtualized drivers are
virtualization-aware drivers used by fully virtualized guests running on Red Hat
Enterprise Linux. Fully virtualized guests using the paravirtualized drivers
gain significantly better I/O performance than fully virtualized guests running
without the drivers.

This update fixes the following bugs:

  • In the previous version of the virtio-win package, the memory balloon driver

was missing the /win2k8R2/ directory, which caused a layout inconsistency
between balloon and the rest of virtio-win drivers. The missing directory has
been added to fix this bug, and all virtio-win drivers now have the same uniform
layout. (BZ#1024718)

  • Previously, during uninstallation, some registry entries related to Volume

Shadow Copy Service (VSS) were not removed completely. As a consequence, during
the next installation, the installer terminated unexpectedly. With this update,
all VSS related registry entries are removed during uninstallation, and
installation now works correctly. (BZ#1046075, BZ#1104499)

Users of virtio-win are advised to upgrade to this updated package, which fixes
these bugs.

relevant to your system have been applied.
