Identify and remediate systems affected by this advisory.
Topic
Updated OpenStack Block Storage packages which resolve various issues are now
available for Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform 5.0 (Icehouse) for
RHEL 6.
Description
Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform provides the facilities for
building a private or public infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) cloud
running on commonly available physical hardware. This advisory includes
packages for:
- OpenStack Block Storage service ("Cinder").
OpenStack Block Storage (cinder) manages block storage mounting and the
presentation of such mounted block storage to instances. The back-end
physical storage can consist of local disks, Fiber Channel, iSCSI, and/or
NFS mounts attached to Compute nodes. In addition, Block Storage supports
volume backups, and snapshots for temporary save and restore operations.
Programmatic management is available through the Block Storage service's
API.
This update addresses the following issues:
- An error in OpenStack Block Storage (cinder) caused FC
devices to badly disconnect (not cleanly), producing kernel
I/O errors. With this update, buffers are now flushed to
ensure FC devices are removed cleanly; errors no longer occur
when FC volumes are detached. (BZ#1093416)
- In the previous version of OpenStack Block Storage, an older (0.7.x)
version of the python-migrate package was installed. As a result,
attempts by the database migration logic to use a module only
available in the 0.8.x version of the package failed. With this fix,
an explicit dependency on the newer version of the package has been
introduced and database migrations can complete successfully.
(BZ#1133905)
- Previously, OpenStack Block Storage (cinder) would retry any
vSphere API call which failed, not just those which failed
due to authentication or temporary network issues.
Additionally, the code to automatically recreate a session
could fail spuriously under some circumstances. This meant
that any vSphere API call that failed would be called
multiple times, which increased the load on the vSphere
server. Also, API failures could result in a failure to re-
establish a new session, causing all subsequent API calls to
fail.
With this update, vSphere API calls are only retried for
transient network or session errors, and session recreation
is independently retried for connection errors. This reduces
the load on the vSphere server, and sessions are reliably
recreated if they expire or fail. (BZ#1140212)
