Topic
Updated qemu-kvm packages that fix several bugs and add various enhancements are now available.
Description
Changes to the qemu-kvm component:
- Previously, qemu-kvm-rhev failed to boot with rbd image, and returned an "Unknown Protocol" error. Now, the rbd driver is compiled in qemu-kvm-rhev, and an unsuccessful boot produces more meaningful error messages. (BZ#1078809)
- Previously, the number of characters in the file name strings for virtual machine (VM) images was limited. Because repeated creation of VM image snapshots gradually increases the file name string size, this eventually resulted in either of the following problems when the size limit was reached: creating an image snapshot failed to be executed, or the VM did not successfully boot. This update fixes the handling of file names so that long file names are now supported, and the mentioned problems no longer occur. (BZ#1072339)
- Previously, when using libiscsi storage as the base image (backing file), qemu-img was not able to merge live snapshots to the backing file. Now, the issue has been fixed and live snapshots can be merged. (BZ#1030301)
- The current implementation of live-merge now works on the active layer. (BZ#1041301)
- Support for ceph has been added to qemu-kvm-rhev. (BZ#989608)
- Previously, streaming an image without a backing file would waste time copying the whole image onto itself. Now, if you attempt to stream an image that does not have a backup file, the streaming job ends immediately. (BZ#965636)
- Previously, if the user increased the default limit of open file descriptors and then started using a large number of file descriptors, QEMU crashed with a "*** buffer overflow detected ***" error and SIGABRT. The definition of 'large' is __FD_SETSIZE, which is currently 1024. If the limit of open file descriptors was not set, QEMU returned an error of "OpenFileFailed", but did not crash. Now, QEMU uses 'poll' rather than 'select', and does not have any restriction on the number of open file descriptors. (BZ#807815)
