Topic

Updated kpatch packages that fix several bugs and add various enhancements are
now available for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.

Description

The kpatch packages are a means of dynamic patching for the Linux kernel.
Specifically, kpatch allows for patching a Linux kernel without rebooting or
restarting processes, works at the function level for replacing old functions
with new functions via hot patch modules.

The kpatch management tool has been upgraded to upstream version 0.1.1, which
provides a number of bug fixes and enhancements over the previous version.

This update also fixes the following bug:

• Previously, the kpatch utility could only uninstall a hot patch module from

the following directories: /var/lib/kpatch/ and /usr/lib/kpatch/. Consequently,
if kpatch could not find the module in the respective directory, it was unable
to uninstall the module. This update disposes of the distinction between
/var/lib/kpatch/ and /usr/lib/kpatch/ directories, and introduces only one place
where installed modules are saved. As a result, kpatch uninstalls hot patch
modules as intended. (BZ#1100148)

Users of kpatch are advised to upgrade to these updated packages, which fix
these bugs and add these enhancements.

Solution

Before applying this update, make sure all previously released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.
