Topic

Updated virtio-win packages that fix two bugs and add one enhancement are now
available for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.

Description

The virtio-win packages provide paravirtualized network drivers for most
Microsoft Windows operating systems. Paravirtualized drivers are
virtualization-aware drivers used by fully virtualized guests running on Red Hat
Enterprise Linux.

This update fixes the following bugs:

  • Previously, a win2008 virtio-win serial driver was shipped erroneously instead

of the win2012 driver. As a consequence, updating the driver using the
rhev-guest-tools-iso command failed. The driver has been replaced with the
correct one, win2012. As a result, using the rhev-guest-tools-iso command for
updating the driver now executes successfully. (BZ#1038298)

  • Previously, if there was no user logged in the Windows operating system, the

VSS (Volume Shadow Copy Service) component became inactive. As a consequence,
VSS commands failed to execute when no active shell session was available. After
this update, the VSS component is now started as a service. As a result, VSS is
always available and no longer becomes inactive when no user is logged in.
(BZ#1055592)

In addition, this update adds the following enhancement:

  • Support for the Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2 paravirtual drivers has

been added to the virtio-win packages. (BZ#1054589)

Users of virtio-win are advised to upgrade to these updated packages, which fix
these bugs and add this enhancement.
