Topic

An updated rhevm-image-uploader package which fixes various bugs and adds
various enhancements is now available.

Description

The rhevm-image-uploader package provides a streamlined process for uploading a
virtual appliance stored as an OVF archive to a Red Hat Enterprise
Virtualization export storage domain.

This update fixes the following bugs:

  • When running rhevm-image-uploader on a system upgraded from Red Hat Enterprise

Virtualization 3.1 a warning was issued that a deprecated configuration key had
been found. The legacy keyword 'rhevm' has been removed from the tool's
configuration files, so the warning is not issued anymore. (BZ#1031094)

  • After an upgrade from version 3.1, the rhevm-image-uploader could not upload

images to the export storage domain because it used the deprecated configuration
key 'rhevm' instead of 'engine'. This update adds a warning that the user needs
to update the 'rhevm' key in the /etc/ovirt-engine/imageuploader.conf file in
order to use the rhevm-iso-uploader tool. (BZ#975347)

  • Previously the logging system wrote all messages to the standard error. Now

only errors are logged to the standard error, all the other message are logged
to standard output. (BZ#1006848)

  • Every time an image was uploaded, the existing log file was overwritten,

making it difficult to debug issues. Now, messages are logged to timestamped
files, to avoid overwriting existing ones. A log rotation was also introduced to
compress old logs. (BZ#950712)

  • Previously, the --insecure flag was passed to the rhevm-image-uploader with

the intention of operating without a security certificate. However, the

  • -insecure flag removes certification validation, rather than the requirement of

a certificate. Users that tried to upload images using the rhevm-image-uploader
by passing the --insecure flag found that they could not upload images without a
CA certificate. A new flag was created in ovirt-sdk allowing insecure object
creation. The image-uploader uses the new ovirt-sdk and now the --insecure
option no longer requires a CA certificate. (BZ#951100)

This update also adds the following enhancements:

  • Use of the -n parameter is now validated to ensure that the destination domain

is an export domain UUID directory. The output of the --help option and the man
page have been updated to explicitly refer to the domain UUID directory.
(BZ#950634)

  • rhevm-image-uploader now supports importing a directory structure containing

images and OVFs, in addition to the current support provided for OVA format
(compressed OVF directories). (BZ#1002320)

  • Examples of how to use the rhevm-image-uploader tool have been added to the

man page and help output for ease of use. The -N option can be used to rename
images. (BZ#887566)

Users of Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization Manager are advised to install this
updated rhevm-image-uploader package which fixes these bugs and adds these
enhancements.
