Topic

Updated util-linux packages that fix a bug are now available for Red Hat
Enterprise Linux 5.

Description

The util-linux packages contain a set of low-level system utilities that are
necessary for a Linux operating system to function.

This update fixes the following bug:

  • Due to a regression, the fdisk utility did not provide kernel with updated

information about new partition table on some systems. Consequently, fdisk
failed to partition a disk not in use at the time. A patch has been provided to
address this issue and fdisk now works as expected in the described scenario.
(BZ#865791)

Users of util-linux are advised to upgrade to these updated packages, which fix
this bug.

Solution

Before applying this update, make sure all previously-released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.
