Updated spacewalk-backend, spacewalk-admin, osad, and jabberd packages that fix
several bugs are now available for Red Hat Network Satellite 5.4.

Description

Red Hat Network Satellite is a systems management tool for Linux-based
infrastructures. It allows for provisioning, monitoring, and remote management
of multiple Linux deployments with a single, centralized tool.

This update fixes the following bugs:

• When the rhn-satellite-exporter utility is executed with the "--start-date"

and "--end-date" command line options in order to perform an incremental export,
it exports only errata and packages in the specified range. This can sometimes
cause exported errata to be incomplete, for example when an erratum is in this
range but some of its packages are not. With this update, a new command line
option "--whole-errata" has been added to the rhn-satellite-exporter utility.
This option can be used to ensure that all packages are exported as long as the
erratum itself is within a given range. (BZ#805582)

• The previous version of the osa-dispatcher service was not able to determine

the hostname of a Red Hat Network Satellite server if it used an alias that was
different from the hostname. This rendered osa-dispatcher unable to correctly
deliver actions to its clients. To prevent this error, osa-dispatcher has been
adapted to use the configured value and not the detected hostname. (BZ#797691)

• Due to an error in the startup order of Red Hat Network Satellite services,

when the database was located on a different server and did not have to be
started, the init script could incorrectly attempt to start the osa-dispatcher
service before jabberd was completely initialized. When this happened,
osa-dispatcher failed to start and displayed a traceback. This update adapts the
init script to ensure that the jabberd service has enough time to start
regardless of where the database is located. (BZ#748290)

• Previously, stopping the jabberd service caused a "connection refused" error

message to be written to the /var/log/messages log file. This happened, because
jabberd processes were shut down in an incorrect order. This update adapts the
init script to shut down jabberd processes in the correct order so that this
error no longer occurs. (BZ#745684)

• In Red Hat Network 5.3.0 and older, all channel exports used the SHA-1

algorithm and therefore did not specify the checksum type. Consequent to this,
if a user had a channel dump generated on such a version of Red Hat Network
Satellite and attempted to import it in Red Hat Network Satellite 5.4.0 or
newer, the channel was not imported properly and an attempt to regenerate its
Yum repository metadata failed with an error unless the user specified the
channel's checksum type manually. This update ensures that the checksum type is
set correctly during the import. (BZ#629878)

All users of Red Hat Network Satellite are advised to upgrade to these updated
packages, which fix these bugs.

Solution

Before applying this update, make sure all previously-released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.
