tcpdump bug fix update

Bug Fix Advisory

Red Hat Lightspeed patch analysis

Identify and remediate systems affected by this advisory.

View affected systems

Topic

An updated tcpdump package that fixes one bug is now available for Red Hat
Enterprise Linux 6.

Description

The tcpdump tool is a command line utility for monitoring network traffic.

This update fixes the following bug:

  • Previously, the "start-time" command-line argument of the tcpslice utility was

parsed incorrectly. As a consequence, the utility produced error messages every
time the command-line argument was used. With this update, the "start-time"
command-line argument is parsed correctly, and an error message is displayed
only if "start-time" is defined in an incorrect format. (BZ#684005)

All users of tcpdump are advised to upgrade to this updated package, which fixes
this bug.

Solution

Before applying this update, make sure all previously-released errata relevant
to your system have been applied.

This update is available via the Red Hat Network. Details on how to use the Red
Hat Network to apply this update are available at
http://kbase.redhat.com/faq/docs/DOC-11259
