Topic

Updated busybox packages that fix two bugs are now available for Red Hat
Enterprise Linux 5.

Description

BusyBox combines versions of common utilities into a single executable. BusyBox
provides replacements for most GNU fileutils, shellutils, etc.

This update fixes the following bugs:

  • Prior to this update, the msh applet had an extremely limited buffer for

storing the results of the process substitution. As a result, the msh applet
exited with the error message "out of string space" when the shell tried to
execute process substitutions of about 15 kilobytes or more. With this update,
the buffer size is limited by the amount of available memory. (BZ#693722)

  • Prior to this update, the msh applet incorrectly executed the "while" loop

with an empty body. As a result, the msh applet could not exit the loop even if
the loop condition was false. With this update, this loop construct works
correctly. (BZ#739042)

All BusyBox users are advised to upgrade to these updated packages, which fix
these bugs.

Solution

Before applying this update, make sure all previously-released errata relevant
to your system have been applied.

This update is available via the Red Hat Network. Details on how to use the Red
Hat Network to apply this update are available at
https://access.redhat.com/kb/docs/DOC-11259
