Topic

An updated initscripts package that fixes various bugs and add several
enhancements is now available for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.

Description

The initscripts package contains system scripts to boot your system, change
runlevels, activate and deactivate most network interfaces, and shut the system
down cleanly.

These updated initscripts packages include a number of bug fixes and
enhancements. Space precludes documenting all of these changes in this advisory.

All users of iniscripts are advised to upgrade to this updated package, which
provide numerous bug fixes and enhancements.

Solution

Before applying this update, make sure that all previously-released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.

Fixes

  • BZ - 462095 - VLAN configs do not work when renaming ethernet interfaces to non-numeric.
  • BZ - 604669 - Specifying bonding arp_ip_target options in modprobe.conf can prevent restarting network
  • BZ - 637176 - checkpid() function in /etc/init.d/functions won't work with plural pids
  • BZ - 648524 - DEVICETYPE isn't calculated correctly for IPoIB child interfaces
  • BZ - 649995 - "grep: character class syntax is [[:space:]], not [:space:]" printed for every tcsh shell
  • BZ - 664091 - Special symbol '#' appears in interface names and confuses scripts.
  • BZ - 665601 - sysctl calls fail with VLANs (mostly breaking IPv6)
  • BZ - 669728 - ifdown hangs indefinitely when
  • BZ - 671386 - Changes to messages returned by dmraid means stat() failures for dmraid setup on boot
  • BZ - 674221 - nic bonding cannot be brought up if specify 'MASTER="bond0"' in ifcfg-ethX
  • BZ - 676851 - hung task warnings when NFS server is unavailable during writeback
  • BZ - 684909 - Interface can not acquire an IPv6 address via DHCPv6 if no IPv4 address is configured
  • BZ - 685038 - No IP connectivity with DHCP when Link was down on boot
  • BZ - 687849 - noisy output if no iscsid check during shutdown or reboot
  • BZ - 689898 - add comment to some mount lines to avoid confusion
  • BZ - 699544 - dhclient will not start after boot on rhel5.7
  • BZ - 703203 - System halt does not unmount mount points with nfs in the path name.
