Topic

An updated paps package that fixes two bugs is now available for Red Hat
Enterprise Linux 5.

Description

The paps utility is a command line tool that converts plain text files to
PostScript using the Pango library.

This update fixes the following bugs:

  • Under certain circumstances, the paps utility could incorrectly typeset output

using a heavy weight font. With this update, a patch has been applied to address
this issue, and the output is now always rendered with a correct font weight.
(BZ#504725)

  • Due to an error in the scaling algorithm, running the paps utility with the

"--cpi" command line option to specify the characters per inch (CPI) value did
not guarantee the output to be scaled correctly. This update corrects the
algorithm to work with exact values, and the output is now scaled as expected.
(BZ#537450)

Users of paps are advised to upgrade to this updated package, which resolves
these issues.

Solution

Before applying this update, make sure that all previously-released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.

This update is available via Red Hat Network. Details on how to use the Red
Hat Network to apply this update are available at
https://access.redhat.com/kb/docs/DOC-11259
