Topic

Updated packages that provide the LMBench, dt (Data Tool), and stress programs
for the v7 hardware certification test suite are now available for Red Hat
Enterprise Linux 6.

Description

v7, the Red Hat Enterprise Linux hardware certification test suite, verifies the
compatibility of hardware devices. Each v7 test run builds a results database
for submission to Red Hat's hardware catalog as an RPM package. v7 replaces Red
Hat Hardware Test Suite (HTS) for certifying hardware for use with Red Hat
Enterprise Linux.

This update enhances the v7 hardware certification test suite with three new
testing programs:

  • LMBench provides a suite of bandwidth, latency and miscellaneous benchmarks.
  • dt, the Data Test Program, can be used to verify the proper operation of

peripherals, file systems, device drivers, or data streams.

  • the stress tool can be used to impose a configurable amount of CPU, memory,

I/O and disk stress to facilitate system scale-testing, evaluate perceived
performance characteristics, and/or to expose bugs which only or more frequently
present when a system is under heavy load.

All users of v7 are advised to upgrade to this updated package, which adds these
enhancements.
