Topic

Updated Red Hat Network Satellite Server packages that fix three bugs are now
available for Red Hat Network Satellite Server 5.4.

Description

Red Hat Network Satellite Server is a system management tool for Linux-based
infrastructures. It allows for the provisioning, remote management and
monitoring of multiple Linux deployments with a single, centralized tool.

This update fixes the following bugs:

  • Previously, the Satellite certificate activation logic that involved

conversion of regular entitlements to flex entitlements did not restrict the
conversion to a channel family and converted all system's subscriptions. Due to
this behavior, Satellite certificate activation failed when it converted regular
system entitlements to flex entitlements for both the base and the child
channels of the converted system. This update fixes the Satellite certificate
activation logic to convert regular to flex entitlements in critical cases.
Activation of a new Satellite certificate now correctly converts regular
entitlements to flex entitlements for base and child channels of a system.
(BZ#668002)

  • Previously, Satellite entitlement logic allowed a registered system to consume

flex entitlement only for one channel at a time. Due to this behavior,
registered systems consumed flex entitlements for their base channels only but
child channels would consume regular entitlements. With this update, the
entitlement logic allows a flex guest to use correct entitlements for both base
and child channels. Registration of a flex guest capable system uses now flex
entitlements for both base and child channels. (BZ#668004)

Previously, server logic that detects systems capable to be converted to flex
guests contained did not behave correctly. Due to this behavior, virtual guests
that consume free entitlements were not converted to flex guests after removal
of their host system. This update corrects the logic detecting flex guest
systems. Virtual guests that consume free entitlements are now correctly
converted to flex guests after removal of their virtual host system. (BZ#668007)

All Users of Red Hat Network Satellite Server are advised to upgrade to these
updated packages that fix these bugs.

Solution

Application of this errata involves updating database schema.

To update the database schema, do the following:

  • Shutdown RHN Satellite. Run as root:

rhn-satellite stop

  • Backup the Oracle database. For embedded database variants, run:

su - oracle
db-control backup /path/to/the/backup

For external database, consult your database administrator.

  • Start the Oracle database (embedded database variants only):

service oracle start

  • Update the database schema using spacewalk-schema-upgrade command.

Run as root:

spacewalk-schema-upgrade

This process will update your database schema to latest version. The
spacewalk-schema-upgrade command will inform you about the results of
the upgrade and exact locations of schema upgrade log files.

  • Restart RHN Satellite. Run as root:

service oracle stop (embedded database variants only)
rhn-satellite start

Affected Products

  • Red Hat Satellite with Embedded Oracle 5.4 for RHEL 5 x86_64
  • Red Hat Satellite with Embedded Oracle 5.4 for RHEL 5 i386

Fixes

  • BZ - 668002 - Conversion to/from flex guests during activation does not work correctly
  • BZ - 668004 - Flex Entitlements are not being consumed when registering a VM
  • BZ - 668007 - Removal of virt. host does not return the guests back to consume Flex guest entitlements
