An updated xorg-x11-drv-ati package that fixes a bug and adds an enhancement is
now available for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.

Description

The xorg-x11-drv-ati package provides a driver for the X.Org implementation of
the X Window System, for ATI cards.

This update fixes the following bug:

• On certain Dell machines with ATI RN50 video controllers, an internal error

(IERR) may have occurred when switching between a virtual terminal (VT) and an X
session. This was caused by the driver incorrectly resetting a component of the
graphics processing unit (GPU). With this update, the driver no longer attempts
to reset that component, and switching between an X session and a virtual
terminal now works as expected. (BZ#608894)

As well, this updated package adds the following enhancement:

• The driver has been updated to support mode-setting on the HD5xxx (Evergreen)

series of the ATI Radeon GPUs. (BZ#573063)

All users of xorg-x11-drv-ati are advised to upgrade to this updated package,
which resolves this issue and adds this enhancement.

Solution

Before applying this update, make sure that all previously-released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.
