Updated spacewalk-backend packages that address satellite-sync speed issues are
now available for Red Hat Network Satellite.

Description

Red Hat Network (RHN) Satellite is a systems management tool for Linux-based
infrastructures. It allows for provisioning, remote management and monitoring of
multiple Linux deployments with a single, centralized tool.

This update fixes the following bugs:

• Inter-Satellite Sync now works between RHN Satellite 5.4 and older releases.

(BZ#644239)

• Running the satellite-sync command always took as long as performing an

initial sync. With this update, performance of the satellite-sync operation is
significantly improved. (BZ#652815)

• Packages synchronized over Inter-Satellite Sync sometimes did not contain all

files. (BZ#652852)

• Packages synchronized from channel dumps sometimes did not contain all file

metadata. (BZ#659348)

Important:

To recover from the bugs BZ#65285 and BZ#659348, perform the following
additional steps:

1. Install this advisory on all Satellites 5.4.0 which have synchronized content
from RHN, channel dump, or via the Inter-Satellite Sync.

2. Flush caches on the server by running the following commands, as root:

# rm /var/cache/rhn/xml* -rf
# rm /var/cache/rhn/satsync/* -rf
# rm /var/cache/rhn/repodata/* -rf

3. Fix the imported content on the server by running the following command, as
root:

# update-packages --update-package-files --debug \

• -db $(spacewalk-cfg-get default_db)

Use --debug option to log the progress into /var/log/rhn/update-packages.log.

After you performed these steps all synchronized package metadata are fixed.

All Red Hat Network Satellite users are advised to upgrade to these updated
packages, which resolve these issues.

Solution

Before applying this update, make sure that all previously-released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.

• BZ - 652852 - meta data sync to ISS slave failed
• BZ - 659348 - file list of rhel6 package shows (Directory) instead of checksum
