Bug Fix Advisory

Identify and remediate systems affected by this advisory.

View affected systems

Topic

Updated device-mapper packages that fix various bugs are now available.

Description

The device-mapper packages provide a library required by logical volume
management utilities such as LVM2 and dmraid.

This update applies the following bug fixes:

  • fixes the device deactivation function so that the function fails if the

device is open. This fixes a problem that occurred when a device remained active
but the symbolic link was unexpectedly removed. (BZ#583900)

  • optimizes regular expression parsing for shared character prefixes. This

shortens processing of lvm2 filters with many devices with a shared prefix.
(BZ#584345)

All users of device-mapper should upgrade to these updated packages, which
resolve these issues and include these enhancements.

Solution

Before applying this update, make sure all previously-released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.

This update is available via the Red Hat Network. Details on how to
use the Red Hat Network to apply this update are available at
http://kbase.redhat.com/faq/docs/DOC-11259
