RHBA-2010:0335 - Bug Fix Advisory

  • Overview

Synopsis

fence bug fix update

Type/Severity

Bug Fix Advisory

Topic

An updated fence package that fixes a bug that prevented fenced nodes on
iLO 2 devices restarting as expected is now available.

Description

The fence package allows failed or unreachable nodes to be forcibly
restarted and removed from the cluster.

This updated fence package fixes the following bug:

  • on Hewlett-Packard-brand servers using HP ProLiant Onboard Administrator,

powered by Integrated Lights-Out 2 (iLO 2), when a node in the cluster was
fenced, the fencing agent powered the node off but did not power it back on
again. Despite this, the fencing action was considered successful and no
error was reported. With this update a new option, "-G [seconds]", was
added to the fence_ilo fencing agent. The option allows this agent to wait
the specified number of seconds after issuing ON/OFF requests which ensures
slower iLO 2 devices will reboot rather than be only powered down.
(BZ#562263)

Note, the default behavior of the fence_ilo agent is unchanged with this
update. To change the behavior requires setting this option. The exact
value needed may vary from system to system but, in testing, setting the
fence_ilo agent to wait five seconds (ie "-G 5") saw iLO 2 version 1.70 and
later devices restart as expected.

All fence users should upgrade to this updated package, which resolves this
issue.

Solution

Before applying this update, make sure all previously released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.

To update all RPMs for your particular architecture, run:

rpm -Fvh [filenames]

where [filenames] is a list of the RPMs you wish to upgrade. Only those
RPMs which are currently installed will be updated. Those RPMs which are
not installed but included in the list will not be updated. Note that you
can also use wildcards (*.rpm) if your current directory *only* contains the
desired RPMs.

Please note that this update is also available via Red Hat Network. Many
people find this an easier way to apply updates. To use Red Hat Network,
launch the Red Hat Update Agent with the following command:

up2date

This will start an interactive process that will result in the appropriate
RPMs being upgraded on your system.
