Topic

Updated Red Hat Network Satellite packages that fix several bugs are now
available.

Description

Red Hat Network Satellite is a systems management tool for Linux-based
infrastructures. It allows for the provisioning, remote management and
monitoring of multiple Linux deployments with a single, centralized tool.

The spacewalk-backend packages provide common program files needed for
installation of RHN Satellite and RHN Proxy.

These updated packages provide fixes for the following bugs related to
channel synchronization and exporting:

  • When creating an interval dump, Satellite exporter would

put all kickstart trees into the generated dump, which led to
generating interval dumps containing unnecessary data.
satellite-sync now correctly sets date and time of last modification for
kickstart trees during a channel synchronization to ensure the kickstart
trees are correctly exported during an interval dump generation.
(BZ#246480)

  • Support for creating channel dumps into a directory that contains

previously created dumps. This allows for creating channel dumps
incrementally. (BZ#501024)

  • Correctly compute MD5 checksums of generated ISO files when creating

a channel dump in DVD ISO format. (BZ#562864)

  • When creating an interval dump for a set of channels

of which at least one did not have any changes in the specified interval,
Satellite exporter would finish with an error. Satellite exporter
now correctly queries for channel and package data to ensure that
interval dump for this specific scenario is generated correctly.
(BZ#567954)

  • When Satellite exporter is interrupted by a user, it will correctly

set the exit code to a non-zero value. (BZ#569233)

  • Satellite now does not use previously generated channel cache files when

generating new channel dump. (BZ#563501)

  • RHN Satellite was not able to properly set content

provider information during package synchronization for packages
that were not downloaded during the same synchronization.
satellite-sync now correctly sets content provider for these
synchronization scenarios. (BZ#556761)

All users of RHN Satellite are advised to upgrade to these updated
packages, which resolve these issues.

Solution

Before applying this update, make sure all previously released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.

To update all RPMs for your particular architecture, run:

rpm -Fvh [filenames]

where [filenames] is a list of the RPMs you wish to upgrade. Only those
RPMs which are currently installed will be updated. Those RPMs which are
not installed but included in the list will not be updated. Note that you
can also use wildcards (*.rpm) if your current directory *only* contains
the
desired RPMs.

Please note that this update is also available via Red Hat Network. Many
people find this an easier way to apply updates. To use Red Hat Network,
launch the Red Hat Update Agent with one of the following commands:

On Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 AS, run:

up2date

On Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 Server, run:

yum update

This will start an interactive process that will result in the appropriate
RPMs being upgraded on your system.

Affected Products

  • Red Hat Satellite with Embedded Oracle 5.3 x86_64
  • Red Hat Satellite with Embedded Oracle 5.3 i386

Fixes

  • BZ - 246480 - sync last_modified dates correctly for ks trees instead of defaulting to current date
  • BZ - 501024 - rhn-satellite-exporter: Incremental export doesn't work
  • BZ - 556761 - Content Provider Unknown if satellite-sync runs on NFS mounted /var/satellite
  • BZ - 562864 - "Error: OverflowError caught!" when running rhn-satellite-exporter
  • BZ - 567954 - Satellite 5.3.0 - rhn-satellite-exporter --start-date and --end-date issues
  • BZ - 569233 - rhn-satellite-exporter should set exit value properly when finishing with a traceback
