Updated Red Hat Network Satellite packages that address issues with
provisioning, activation keys, channel management and satellite-sync are
now available.

Description

Red Hat Network Satellite is a systems management tool for Linux-based
infrastructures. It allows for the provisioning, remote management and
monitoring of multiple Linux deployments with a single, centralized tool.

These updated Red Hat Network Satellite packages provide fixes for the
following bugs:

• the formatting of RHN Status Reports has been improved. (BZ#382561)
• activation keys which contain whitespace are able to be created but

cannot easily be used. (BZ#514759)

• activation key usage increased when reprovisioning a machine. (BZ#526696)
• Cobbler's post_install_network_config scriptlet incorrectly overwrote

changes in the network-scripts/ directory. (BZ#530177)

• accessing kickstart URLs which contained "/cblr" in their paths through a

proxy did not result in the proper rewrite of references to the Satellite's
hostname with those of the proxy. (BZ#543879)

• while running a satellite-sync command, the "Importing package metadata"

step could have taken a long time to complete. (BZ#545389)

• removing a package from a channel using the web interface took a long

time. (BZ#549553)

• variables in kickstart files contained spurious newline characters which

rendered the files non-functional. (BZ#552900)

• multiple activation keys prevented configuration channel deployment at

registration time when one key did not have deployment enabled. (BZ#557581)

All users of Red Hat Network Satellite are advised to upgrade to these
updated packages, which resolve these issues.

Solution

Before applying this update, make sure all previously released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.

To update all RPMs for your particular architecture, run:

rpm -Fvh [filenames]

where [filenames] is a list of the RPMs you wish to upgrade. Only those
RPMs which are currently installed will be updated. Those RPMs which are
not installed but included in the list will not be updated. Note that you
can also use wildcards (*.rpm) if your current directory *only* contains
the desired RPMs.

Please note that this update is also available via Red Hat Network. Many
people find this an easier way to apply updates. To use Red Hat Network,
launch the Red Hat Update Agent with the following command:

up2date

or, for RHEL 5:

yum update

This will start an interactive process that will result in the appropriate
RPMs being upgraded on your system.

After installing the needed packages you will need to run:

rhn-satellite restart

• BZ - 514759 - RHN Activation Key -- white space nuisance

• BZ - 543879 - Accessing kickstart from Proxy - rewrite does not work for /cblr/svc/op/ks/* url
• BZ - 545389 - satellite-sync taking 2-3 times longer with 5.3 as it did with 5.2 (first time sync)
• BZ - 549553 - Channel->Packages->Remove packages is slow (sometimes UI times out and actual removal of ~6000pkgs take over 1 hr)
• BZ - 552900 - Variables in kickstart automatically get a '\n' and this breaks ks.cfg
• BZ - 557581 - Config deploy ignored if one activation key has it disabled
