Topic

An updated ypserv package that fixes a bug is now available.

Description

The ypserv package provides the Network Information Service (NIS) server.
The NIS is a system that provides network information (login names,
passwords, home directories, group information) to all of the machines on a
network.

This update addresses the following issue:

  • the yppush command forcibly propagates changed NIS maps from the master

NIS server to slave NIS servers within an NIS domain. Previously, when
yppush was used to propagate NIS maps from an master server running on an
x86-based system to a 64-bit PowerPC-based slave server, the slave server
would hang with the following error:

  • ** glibc detected *** free(): invalid pointer: 0x100152a4 ***

This update prevents the slave server from hanging when the invalid pointer
is freed, allowing map propagation to occur as expected. (BZ#557034)

Users are advised to upgrade to this updated ypserv package which fixes
this bug.

Solution

Before applying this update, make sure all previously-released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.

This update is available via the Red Hat Network. Details on how to
use the Red Hat Network to apply this update are available at
