Topic
Updated Red Hat Network Satellite packages that address performance issues
seen on Systems and Systems Group Overview pages are now available.
Description
Red Hat Network Satellite is a systems management tool for Linux-based
infrastructures. It allows for the provisioning, remote management and
monitoring of multiple Linux deployments with a single, centralized tool.
This updated package fixes the following bug:
- using Red Hat Satellite 5.3.0, Systems and System Groups Overview pages
(rhn/systems/SystemGroupList.do and rhn/systems/Overview.do) took minutes,
rather than seconds to load, or failed to load at all, presenting "service
temporary unavailable" errors instead. Note: this bug only presented on
satellites managing thousands of systems. For this update the queries used
to generate these pages are more specifically targeted, to reduce memory
requirements, and have been optimized to reduce execution time. The
affected pages now load in seconds, as expected. (BZ#525575)
All Red Hat Network Satellite users should install these updated packages
which address this issue.
Solution
Before applying this update, make sure all previously released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.
To update all RPMs for your particular architecture, run:
rpm -Fvh [filenames]
where [filenames] is a list of the RPMs you wish to upgrade. Only those
RPMs which are currently installed will be updated. Those RPMs which are
not installed but included in the list will not be updated. Note that you
can also use wildcards (*.rpm) if your current directory *only* contains
the desired RPMs.
Please note that this update is also available via Red Hat Network. Many
people find this an easier way to apply updates. To use Red Hat Network,
launch the Red Hat Update Agent with the following command:
up2date
or, for RHEL 5:
yum update
This will start an interactive process that will result in the appropriate
RPMs being upgraded on your system.
After installing the needed packages you will need to run:
rhn-satellite restart
