Updated java-1.6.0-ibm packages that fix issues regarding necessary
documentation, necessary launchpad script executable permissions and
unnecessary launchpad files are now available for Red Hat Enterprise
Linux 5 Supplementary.

This erratum originally stated it contained the IBM 1.6.0 SR10 Java
release. This was a mistake, as the packages actually contain the IBM 1.6.0
SR5 Java release. The file paths (/usr/share/doc/) mentioned in the erratum
text have also been updated to avoid potential confusion.

Description

IBM's 1.6.0 Java release includes the IBM Java 2 Runtime Environment and
the IBM Java 2 Software Development Kit.

These updated packages address the following issues:

• as noted in the "Tools Updates" section of the Red Hat Enterprise Linux

5.4 Release Notes and the Red Hat Knowledgebase article, "IBM-Java and
virtio-win packages were removed from the Red Hat Enterprise Linux
Supplementary media", (see immediately below and the References section for
URLs) the java-1.6.0-ibm packages were removed from the Red Hat Enterprise
Linux 5.4 Supplementary CD and made available separately via the Red Hat
Network (RHN).

This removal was attributed to missing Copyright and Notices files, with
these files apparently going missing consequent to the re-packaging of
IBM's original tarballs as RPM packages.

Further investigation found some of these files were present but had been
moved to comply with the SELinux requirements for file locations and others
were, in fact, missing.

These updated packages move the documentation to the base installation
package, ensuring all these files are included, as required, even in a
minimum installation. (BZ#522515)

• Microsoft Windows-specific files were installed to

/usr/share/doc/java-1.6.0-ibm-devel-1.6.0.[x]/ if the "-devel" sub-package
was installed. Files installed included autorun.inf, launchpad.exe,
launchpad.ini and several launchpad-related batch (.bat) files.

Files concerned with presenting the launchpad splash screen on multiple
operating systems and CPU architectures were also installed to
/usr/share/doc/java-1.6.0-ibm-devel-1.6.0.[x]/launchpad/. These files did
nothing but were (and are) unnecessary. With this update, the
Windows-specific launchpad files and unnecessary splash screen-related
files are no longer installed. (BZ#524003)

• an error in the java-1.6.0-ibm spec file meant the file

/usr/share/doc/java-1.6.0-ibm-devel-1.6.0.[x]/launchpad.sh and related
scripts installed to
/usr/share/doc/java-1.6.0-ibm-devel-1.6.0.[x]/launchpad/ were missing the
executable permission bit. This update corrects the spec file error and
these scripts now install with the execute bit set properly for these
files. (BZ#528037)

All users of java-1.6.0-ibm are advised to upgrade to these updated
packages, which resolve these issues.

Solution

Before applying this update, make sure that all previously-released
errata relevant to your system have been applied.
