Topic

An updated setup package that fixes a bug is now available.

Description

The setup package contains a set of important system configuration and
setup files, such as passwd, group, and profile.

This updated setup package fixes the following bug:

  • when shells such as bash and ksh start up, they first read the

/etc/profile script to "set up" an initial environment. Due to the use of a
redirection syntax which the ksh interpreter does not understand, upon
startup, ksh read /etc/profile and then output information about processes
which were being run in the background to standard error. This update
changes the redirection syntax in the /etc/profile script that shells read
so that ksh no longer outputs extraneous information when starting up.
(BZ#508624)

All users of setup are advised to upgrade to this updated package, which
resolves this issue.

Solution

Before applying this update, make sure that all previously-released
errata relevant to your system have been applied.

This update is available via Red Hat Network. Details on how to use
