Topic

An updated yaboot package that fixes various bugs is now available.

Description

The yaboot package is a boot loader for Open Firmware based PowerPC
systems. It can be used to boot IBM eServer System p machines.

This updated package fixes the following bugs:

  • previously, the "/proc/device-tree/" directory existed. This directory

has been removed. Running the "ofpath" command caused an "ofpath:
/proc/device-tree is broken" error. In this updated package, the "ybin"
and "ofpath" commands no longer check for the "/proc/device-tree/"
directory, which resolves this issue.

  • when using certain newer Linux kernels, IBM POWER6 systems did not boot

unless the kernel label was manually entered. It was not possible to boot
without manual intervention. In this updated package, newer kernel versions
boot without manual intervention on IBM POWER6 systems.

  • the previous yaboot package was built against a binary version of the

libext2fs library. In this updated package, the yaboot package is built
against the system library of libext2fs.

All PowerPC yaboot users are advised to upgrade to this updated package,
which resolves these issues.
