Topic

An updated file package that fixes several bugs and adds various
enhancements is now available.

Description

The file command is used to identify a particular file according to the
type of data contained in the file.

This updated file package provides fixes for the following bugs:

  • the file command was not able to identify UTF-16 LE

(little-endian)-encoded XML files, which has been fixed in this updated
package.

  • the file command incorrectly identified a text file beginning with a

certain letter sequence that is common in some languages as an MPEG-4 LO-EP
audio stream.

In addition, this updated package provides the following enhancements:

  • the file command is now able to recognize EXT4 file systems.
  • the file command is now able to recognize GFS2 file systems.

Users are advised to upgrade to this updated file package, which resolves
these issues and adds these enhancements.

Solution

Before applying this update, make sure that all previously-released
errata relevant to your system have been applied.
