An updated system-config-network package that fixes several bugs and adds
an enhancement is now available.

Description

This updated package adds the following bug fixes and enhancements:

• the previous version adds trailing spaces to "options" lines in

/etc/modprobe.conf when adding or deleting wireless devices. These spaces
would be added to lines not describing the wireless devices and the
presence of these spaces caused crashes in certain hardware. This updated
package no longer adds these spaces.

• system-config-network allows the user to create multiple profiles and to

set the hostname within each one. Previously, changing the hostname within
any profile would change the hostname in all profiles. This updated package
allows the user to set different hostnames in different profiles.

• if a user added a static route to a network adapter,

system-config-network would crash. This updated version of
system-config-network handles static routes correctly and will not crash
when the user adds one.

• system-config-network previously offered to configure Channel-to-Channel

(CTC) interfaces for IBM s390 systems. Despite its inclusion in the user
interface, this feature was never functional and the CTC driver module has
subsequently been removed from the kernel. The presence of this item in the
user interface was therefore misleading, and it has been removed from this
updated package.

• system-config-network requires the fonts provided with

xorg-x11-fonts-Type1 in order to display. However, it was possible for
system-config-network to be present on a system and unable to function
because these fonts had not been installed. This update sets
xorg-x11-fonts-Type1 as a dependency for system-config-network to ensure
that these fonts will be available.

• system-config-network is not capable of handling non-numerical aliases

for network interfaces. Previously, if a user set one of these aliases to a
non-numerical value, system-config-network would crash. This updated
package shows a warning message instead of crashing.

• system-config-network did not allow users to add entries for hosts with

the same name but different IP addresses (multi-homed hosts). Furthermore,
if a user manually added these details to /etc/hosts, system-config-network
would destroy all but one of the addresses the next time that it started.
The version of system-config-network provided with this advisory allows
users to configure multi-homed hosts either through the GUI or by manually
editing /etc/hosts.

• system-config-network fail to start if any of the host names in

/etc/hosts contained an underscore. The presence of a host name with an
underscore in it will not prevent this updated version of
system-config-network from starting.

• system-config-network could crash if a WLAN name contained an apostrophe

or quotation mark. The presence of an apostrophe or quotation mark in the
name of a WLAN will not prevent this updated version of
system-config-network from starting.

• a typo in the "Configure DSL connection" dialog box has been corrected.
• DNS addresses could not be specified in either the GUI or text interfaces

for situations where a static IP was used or if DHCP failed to retrieve DNS
information. This updated version of system-config-network allows DNS
addresses to be set in both graphical and text mode.

• the combobox for wireless interfaces lacked an option for "open/shared"

authentication for networks using WEP. This meant that
system-config-network could not be used to configure the network adapter
for this type of connection. This updated version of system-config-network
allows the user to select "open/shared" authentication for use with a
network protected by WEP.

• system-config-network did not allow the user to enable level2 interfaces

for IBM s390 systems. An options entry has been added for qeth hardware
devices that sets OPTIONS in the ifcfg-<iface> file so that users can
enable these interfaces. Furthermore, qeth devices can be grouped and
brought online if set of "activate", in the same way that Level3 devices
can be.

Solution

Before applying this update, make sure that all previously-released
errata relevant to your system have been applied.
