Updated openmpi packages that fix a bug and add enhancements are now
available.

Description

Open MPI is the open Message Passing Interface (MPI) software stack used
for cluster communications in high-performance compute clusters.

A bug in the previous versions of openmpi and lam may have prevented
upgrading these packages. Attempting to upgrade openmpi or lam may have
caused the following error:

error: %preun(openmpi-[version]) scriptlet failed, exit status 2

To upgrade these packages, run the following command to remove the older
versions of openmpi and lam:

rpm -qa | grep '^openmpi-\|^lam-' | xargs rpm -e --noscripts --allmatches

As well, these updated packages add the following enhancements:

• multiple compiler support, to accommodate compilers other than GCC;

however, Red Hat only supports the latest shipped-version of openmpi
compiled with GCC.

• support for OpenFabrics Enterprise Distribution (OFED) version 1.3. As

such, openmpi and lam now use "mpi-selector" to set which MPI
implementation to use at any given time. For more information, refer to the
"mpi-selector" and "mpi-selector-menu" man pages.

Note: these updated packages upgrade the Open MPI stack from version
1.2.3 to version 1.2.5, which includes a number of bug fixes and
enhancements not listed here. For a full list of bug fixes and

Users of openmpi are advised to upgrade to these updated packages, which
resolve this issue and add these enhancements.

Solution

Before applying this update, make sure that all previously-released
errata relevant to your system have been applied.
