Topic

A new initscripts package that fixes various bugs and add various
enhancements is now available.

Description

The initscripts package contains the basic system scripts used to boot your
Red Hat system, change runlevels, and shut the system down cleanly.
Initscripts also contains the scripts that activate and de-activate most
network interfaces.

This package addresses the following bugs:

  • genhostid used to generate 32bit and 64bit hostids on 64 bit systems; it

now generates only 32 bit hostids on 64 bit systems.

  • checking for the need to remount the root file system read-writable has

been refined.

  • the quoted SUBCHANNELS and HWADDR options in network configuration files

were previously handled incorrectly. This package corrects this by handling
these options properly.

  • rc.sysinit would not execute the proper configuration tools, if

/.unconfigured was present. This is corrected within this update.

As well, this updated package adds the following enhancements:

  • IKE_DHGROUP is now an option for IPsec configuration files, allowing

the dh group to be set (used during PHASE 1 of IPsec SA).

  • arp_ip_target can now be used with a comma separated IP list in BONDING_OPTS.
  • support for resuming from an encrypted swap has been added.
  • support for properly checking the filesystem on iscsi root devices if the

_rnetdev option is specified in fstab, has
been added.

Users should upgrade to this updated package, which resolve these issues
and adds these enhancements.

Solution

Before applying this update, make sure that all previously-released
errata relevant to your system have been applied.

This update is available via Red Hat Network. Details on how to use
the Red Hat Network to apply this update are available at
