Topic

An updated cachefilesd package that fixes various bugs is now available.

Description

The cachefilesd daemon manages a persistent cache for a variety of network
file systems, such as AFS and NFS. The cachefilesd daemon uses a set of
files on an already-mounted file system as the data store.

The cache system has a problem that results in the cachefilesd daemon not
being able to cull cache objects, as long as the NFS files locking them are
retained in memory, even if these files are not currently in use. This
problem is unresolved; however, the cachefilesd documentation has been
updated to describe the current culling behavior.

The cachefilesd daemon returned incorrect return codes. For example, if
networking was disabled, attempting to start the cachefilesd daemon using
the "service cachefilesd start" command, resulted in a return code of "0"
(successful), even though the cachefilesd daemon failed to start. The
cachefilesd init script is now Linux Standard Base (LSB) compliant, which
resolves this issue.

Users of cachefilesd are advised to upgrade to this update package, which
resolves these issues.
