An updated net-tools package that fixes various bugs is now available.

Description

The net-tools package contains basic networking tools, including ifconfig,
netstat, route, and others.

This updated package addresses the following issues:

• the init script for the netplug daemon, netplugd, would sometimes return

an incorrect value when asked for the status code. This has been fixed so
that netplugd now adheres to init script guidelines and returns the correct
status code.

• the arp program (short for Address Resolution Protocol) would sometimes

give "unaligned access" warning messages, indicating a possible problem
with memory allocation or type casts. This potential problem has been fixed
and the "unaligned access warning messages" now no longer appear.

• if the sctp module was not present in the kernel, netstat would issue

warning messages about the missing kernel module. This has been fixed so
that, in normal operation, netstat does not complain about the missing
kernel module; however, netstat will display the following warning message
when invoked with the '-s' (show per-protocol statistics) option:

netstat: no support for `AF INET (sctp)' on this system.

All users of net-tools should upgrade to this updated package, which
resolves these issues.

Solution

Before applying this update, make sure that all previously-released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.
