Topic

Updated autofs packages that fix various bugs are now available.

Description

The autofs packages control the operation of the automount daemons. The
automount daemons automatically mount and unmount file systems after a
period of inactivity. File systems can include network file systems,
CD-ROMs, diskettes, and other media.

These updated packages address the following bugs:

  • the automount daemon would not handle mounting file systems with spaces

in their names properly when the key for the file system matched the
wildcard.

  • the automount daemon did not cache failed lookups, allowing errant or

legacy applications to incur excess load on NFS servers.

  • autofs bind mounts failed when used by program maps.
  • the automount daemon did not allow LDAP base DNs that included spaces.
  • when failing a mount, the automount daemon did not log enough information

to allow a system administrator to easily determine the cause for the
failed mount.

  • the automount daemon logged start, stop, and restart activity when

debugging was enabled, but it did not log reload.

  • the automount daemon would not consider multiple paths from a single host

in replicated server entries.

  • the automount daemon would not start with empty maps.
  • the automount daemon did not understand the "-null" directive.
  • unless OLD_LDAP_LOOKUP was set to 0, the automount daemon failed to read

certain ldap maps.

  • the automout daemon failed to handle replicated server entries properly.
  • the autofs init script failed to parse certain variants of the

"--timeout" option.

  • the automount daemon did not properly handle included maps from LDAP.
  • the automount daemon would fail to start if the mtab file was locked for

an extended period of time.

All users of autofs should upgrade to these updated packages, which resolve
these issues.
