Topic

Updated findutils packages that fix various bugs are now available.

Description

The findutils package contains programs for locating files. The find
utility searches for files matching a certain set of criteria (such as a
filename pattern). The xargs utility builds and executes command lines
from standard input arguments (usually file names generated by the find
command).

Bugs fixed in these updated packages include:

  • The find(1) man page contained a description of suffixes "M" and "G" for

the argument of the "-size" operator. These suffixes are not supported in
the version of find(1) shipped in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4.

  • The find(1) command did not support file systems with inode numbers that

cannot be represented in 32 bits.

  • The -E, -I and -L options of the xargs(1) command did not work.

Users are advised to upgrade to these updated findutils packages, which
resolve these issues.

Solution

Before applying this update, make sure all previously released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.

This update is available via Red Hat Network. To use Red Hat Network,
launch the Red Hat Update Agent with the following command:

up2date

This will start an interactive process that will result in the appropriate
RPMs being upgraded on your system.

  • BZ - 198654 - find missing Large File Support
  • BZ - 199424 - xargs gives -I as a valid option in its output but says invalid option on Use
