Topic

Updated gdb packages that fix various bugs are now available.

Description

GDB, the GNU debugger, allows debugging of programs written in C, C++,
and other languages, by executing them in a controlled fashion and then
printing their data.

These updated packages address the following issues:

  • GDB could not debug core files created on different machines because of

differences in prelink base addresses.

  • The gcore command could not create core files larger than 2GB on some

architectures.

  • GDB could not open core files larger than 2GB on some architectures.
  • The gstack command might not work properly if PATH is not set.
  • A latent problem in debug register handling that would be exposed by the

ia32el update (in multi-threaded debugging scenarios) was discoverd.

All users of gdb should upgrade to these updated packages, which resolve
these issues.

Solution

Before applying this update, make sure all previously released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.

This update is available via Red Hat Network. To use Red Hat Network,
launch the Red Hat Update Agent with the following command:

up2date

This will start an interactive process that will result in the appropriate
RPMs being upgraded on your system.
