RHBA-2006:0384 - Bug Fix Advisory
Synopsis
parted bug fix update
Type/Severity
Bug Fix Advisory
Red Hat Insights patch analysis
Identify and remediate systems affected by this advisory.
Topic
Updated parted packages that fix several bugs are now available.
Description
The GNU Parted program allows you to create, destroy, resize, move,
and copy hard disk partitions. Parted can be used for creating space
for new operating systems, reorganizing disk usage, and copying data
to new hard disks.
Bugs corrected in this update:
- A flaw was discovered in parted that prevented SCSI disks with major
numbers of 128 through 135 from being edited. This update contains a patch
to parted that addresses this problem and allows users to work with SCSI
disks with major device numbers of 128 through 135.
- When a disk has a sector size other than 512 bytes, parted presents a
warning message and asks the user how to proceed. The message was somewhat
confusing with the wording and command choices.
Users should upgrade to these updated packages, which resolve this issue.
Solution
Before applying this update, make sure all previously released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.
This update is available via Red Hat Network. To use Red Hat Network,
launch the Red Hat Update Agent with the following command:
up2date
This will start an interactive process that will result in the appropriate
RPMs being upgraded on your system.
