RHBA-2006:0362 - Bug Fix Advisory
Synopsis
sed bug fix update
Type/Severity
Bug Fix Advisory
Topic
A sed update, with various bug fixes, is now available.
Description
Sed is a stream or batch (non-interactive) editor. Sed takes text as
input, performs an operation or set of operations on the text, and outputs
the modified text.
This update fixes the behavior of sed in various ways:
- sed will not overwrite symbolic links when doing in-place edit (-i option).
- A new option was introduced: -c. With this option used during in-place
edit, sed will use copying of files where simple rename would be used
otherwise. This is slower, but will not change the permissions of the
edited file.
- sed -i will no longer crash in a read-only directory. It will quit with
proper error message.
- sed 'y' command was fixed so that it is possible to use escape sequences
in the command arguments.
The update is recommended for console people, sysadmins and shell
programmers. For other users, the update is optional.
Solution
Before applying this update, make sure all previously released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.
This update is available via Red Hat Network. To use Red Hat Network,
launch the Red Hat Update Agent with the following command:
