Updated util-linux packages that fix several bugs are now available.

Description

The util-linux package contains a collection of basic system utilities.

This update also fixes the following bugs:

  • the newgrp command gave misleading output
  • the look command did not work with separators
  • the login command timeout failed
  • the login command ran even if it had no read/write access to the terminal
  • the login command did not report to the audit system
  • the umount command did not support /sbin/umount.<TYPE>
  • the losetup and mount commands did not work correctly with an offset

greater than 2GB

  • the mount command reads did not support the 'noacl' mount flag
  • a reduced number of possible simultaneous tcp mounts
  • the floppy command did not work with generic /dev/fd0
  • the PAM configuration for the login command contained the 'multiple' option
  • the mkswap man page gave incorrect information
  • the NFS man page was incomplete
  • the mount man page was incomplete

All users of util-linux should upgrade to these updated packages, which
resolve these issues.

Solution

Before applying this update, make sure that all previously-released
errata relevant to your system have been applied. Use Red Hat
Network to download and update your packages. To launch the Red Hat
Update Agent, use the following command:

up2date

  • BZ - 159410 - mkswap(8) claims max swap area size is 2 GB
  • BZ - 168434 - RHEL4: login's timeout can fail - needs to call siginterrupt(SIGALRM,1)
  • BZ - 168436 - RHEL4: login will attempt to run if it has no read/write access to its terminal
  • BZ - 168989 - RHEL4: losetup (and mount -o loop) wrap at 2GB
  • BZ - 169042 - [Texas Instruments] nfs bindresvport: Address already in use
  • BZ - 169628 - RHEL4: /usr/bin/floppy doesn't work with /dev/fd0
  • BZ - 170110 - Documentation for 'rsize' and 'wsize' NFS mount options is misleading
  • BZ - 170564 - add audit message to login
