RHBA-2005:697 - Bug Fix Advisory
Synopsis
nfs-utils bug fix update
Type/Severity
Bug Fix Advisory
Topic
An updated nfs-utils package that updates how the nfsnobody user
is created on 64bit platforms is now available.
Description
The nfs-utils package provides a daemon for the kernel NFS server and
related tools, providing a much higher level of performance than the
traditional Linux NFS server used by most users.
The following issues have been addressed:
When the nfs-utils package is installed /var/log/lastlog gets turned into a
HUGE sparse file and lastlog takes a long time to run because of the huge
gap; due to that fact nfs-utils uses adduser to install the nfsnobody account.
When re-exporting the rebuild of the export database in xtab_read, when
reading /proc/fs/nfs/exports, fails to set the m_mayexport flag, as it does
when reading /var/lib/nfs/xtab. The result is that exportfs interprets this
as a indicator to explicitly unexport the mount.
When trying to mount a file that is larger than 2G, rpc.mountd would fail
with the following error message:
rpc.mountd: can't stat exported dir /var/www/Sun/S10305.flar:
Value too large for defined data type
When more that one exportfs process is run simultaneously re-exporting the
same filesystems, the export list in the kernel becomes corrupted.
Filesystems that were exported are no longer exported and the client starts
to see ESTALES
A configuration change in a previous release caused statd to fail normal
lock monitoring requests especially on multi-home servers. This has been
remedied.
The rpc.mountd daemon failed incoming NFS mounts with 'getfh failed:
Operation not permitted' on 64-bit systems due to passing stat64() the
wrong type of input buffer.
Users should upgrade to this updated package, which resolves these issues.
Solution
Before applying this update, make sure that all previously-released
errata relevant to your system have been applied. Use Red Hat
Network to download and update your packages. To launch the Red Hat
Update Agent, use the following command:
up2date
