Updated system-config-soundcard and alsa-utils packages fix a problem with
sound on some H-P machines or select sound interfaces.

Description

The system-config-soundcard package contains a graphical user interface
that detects and configures the soundcard(s) on the system.

The alsa-utils package contains command line utilities for the Advanced
Linux Sound Architecture (ALSA).

On a some Hewlett-Packard workstations (H-P xw4100, H-P xw6000, H-P xw8000)
or some sound cards (Sound Blaster Live!, Sound Blaster Audigi, Intel
ICH4/ICH5), the sound test fails to give audible sound at firstboot so it
appears that sound is not functional. Updated system-config-soundcard and
alsa-utils packages unmute the cards at firstboot, and users now hear the
test sound or if system-config-soundcard is run by the user.

All system-config-soundcard and alsa-utils users should upgrade to these
updated packages, which resolve this issue.

Solution

Before applying this update, make sure all previously released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.

This update is available via Red Hat Network. To use Red Hat Network,
launch the Red Hat Update Agent with the following command:

up2date

This will start an interactive process that will result in the appropriate
RPMs being upgraded on your system.
