RHBA-2005:156 - Bug Fix Advisory
Synopsis
procps bug fix update
Type/Severity
Bug Fix Advisory
Topic
An updated procps package that fixes various bugs is now available.
Description
The procps package contains a set of system utilities that provide system
information. The procps package includes ps, free, skill, snice, tload,
top, uptime, vmstat, w, and watch.
The following issues have been addressed:
- The ps command sometimes showed an incorrect value for VSZ. This has
been fixed.
- Bad data type usage for UID and GID has been fixed. It produced
unexpected results for UID and GID.
- The unsupported '-H' option has been removed from the top man page.
- The order of columns in the vmstat output has been fixed and it's
compatible with the output in the first RHEL3 release now.
- The command ps used a small buffer size for the -C option. The buffer is
now 16 bytes like other versions of ps.
- The man page for vmstat contained a typo in the output columns
description. This has been fixed.
All users of procps should upgrade to this updated package, which
resolves these issues.
Solution
Before applying this update, make sure all previously released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.
To update all RPMs for your particular architecture, run:
rpm -Fvh [filenames]
where [filenames] is a list of the RPMs you wish to upgrade. Only those
RPMs which are currently installed will be updated. Those RPMs which are
not installed but included in the list will not be updated. Note that you
can also use wildcards (*.rpm) if your current directory *only* contains
the
desired RPMs.
Please note that this update is also available via Red Hat Network. Many
people find this an easier way to apply updates. To use Red Hat Network,
launch the Red Hat Update Agent with the following command:
up2date
This will start an interactive process that will result in the appropriate
RPMs being upgraded on your system.
