Topic

An updated initscripts package is available that fixes various bugs.

Description

The initscripts package contains the basic system scripts used to boot
your Red Hat system, change runlevels, and shut the system down
cleanly. Initscripts also contains the scripts that activate and
deactivate most network interfaces.

Bugs fixed in this release include:

  • corrected handling of ONBOOT
  • corrected handling MASTER and other configuration directives in the

presence of commented-out values

  • dhcp clients are now killed on ifdown if the interface was changed to

static configuration in the interim

  • ETHTOOL_OPTS is supported on addressless devices
  • the netfs script no longer unintentionally mounts GFS filesystems
  • the netfs script now handles NFS root cases better
  • fixed the loading of multiple scsi_hostadapter entries
  • fixed the setting of the IPv6 default route
  • fixed the handling of the _netdev fstab option

All users of the initscripts package should upgrade to this updated
package, which resolves these issues.

Solution

Before applying this update, make sure that all previously-released
errata relevant to your system have been applied. Use Red Hat
Network to download and update your packages. To launch the Red Hat
Update Agent, use the following command:
