RHBA-2005:001 - Bug Fix Advisory
Synopsis
bind bug fix update
Type/Severity
Bug Fix Advisory
Topic
Updated BIND packages that resolve upgrade issues are available.
Description
BIND (Berkeley Internet Name Domain) is an implementation of the DNS
(Domain Name System) protocols. BIND includes a DNS server (named) which
resolves host names to IP addresses; a resolver library (routines for
applications to use when interfacing with DNS); and tools for verifying
that the DNS server is operating properly.
These updated packages address the following issues:
- Previously, upgrading from bind-9.2.4-EL3_10 removed the named service
from all sysv-init run levels.
- This update preserves the named run-level service state across upgrades.
All users of bind should upgrade to these updated packages, which resolve
these issues.
64-bit platform users please note:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Red Hat no longer ships 32-bit libraries for 64-bit platforms. If you have
any 32-bit bind-libs packages installed (eg. i386 RPMs on Itanium, AMD64 or
Intel EM64T) please remove them with 'rpm -e' before re-installing the
64-bit BIND bind-*.rpm packages.
